Viewing and adjusting the output volume (TPX 88 A only)

On the TPX 88 A, the audio level of each local output (the output on the captive screw connectors) can be displayed and adjusted through a range of 100% (no attenuation) to 0% (full attenuation). The audio level can be adjusted from the front panel or under RS-232/RS-422 control.

The volume adjustment does not affect the audio portion of the twisted pair

link output on RJ-45 connectors.

The output level adjustment will not work for a local output that is muted. If

one or more local outputs are muted, press the Mute All button once or twice

as necessary to turn off the Mute All LED.

1.

Press the Esc button to clear any input buttons, output buttons, or control

buttons that may be lit.

2.

Press and hold the I/O button until the Audio LED begins to blink, then

release the I/O button.

3.

Press and release an output button to select an output. The input buttons

display the volume level for the selected output. Each unlit or background

illuminated input button indicates approximately 7 dB of volume attenuation

(whether there is an input associated with the button or not). There are eight

steps displayed, from full attenuation applied (no input buttons lit, or 50 dB

of attenuation) to the full volume output (all input buttons lit, or output

volume equal to the input signal plus any gain or attenuation).

Another way to view the volume level is to realize that each lit input button

indicates up to 14 percent of the input volume is applied to the output. When

all 8 input buttons are lit, the switcher is outputting 100% of the audio input.

4.

Rotate the Volume knob to increase and decrease the audio volume.

5.

Press and release the I/O button to exit the audio display and adjustment

mode. The Audio LED stops blinking.

• There is one audio volume level setting per output. The audio level setting is shared by the left and right audio inputs.

• The audio volume levels are stored in non-volatile memory. When power is removed and restored, the audio level settings are retained.
