I/O grouping

I/O grouping is an RS-232/RS-422 controlled feature that allows you to subdivide the front panel control of the matrix into up to four smaller functional sub- switchers. Inputs and outputs can be assigned to one of four groups (figure 3-4) or not assigned to any group. Once assigned to a group, inputs and outputs can only be tied within that group from the front panel. For example, a front panel operator cannot tie an input that is assigned to group 1 to an output that is assigned to group

2.Ungrouped inputs and outputs can be switched to outputs and inputs in any group.

Figure 3-4 — I/O grouping of compatible twisted pair transmitter/receiver pairs

The I/O groups can be set up only by using the RS-232/RS-422 port and either the SIS or the Windows control program (see chapter 4, Programmer’s Guide, and chapter 5, Matrix Software. Ties between groups (an input in group 1 tied to an output in group 2) can be created under RS-232/RS-422 control. Presets can also be created under RS-232/RS-422 control that tie inputs and outputs across group boundaries. These presets are selectable from the front panel.

Suggested applications for the I/O grouping feature include:

Segregating specific twisted pair transmitter and receiver formats to prevent a transmission from one family of twisted pair transmitters from being inadvertently applied to a twisted pair receiver from an incompatible family. See the table on page 1-3 and page 1-4 for twisted pair transmitter and receiver compatibility.

Segregating specific video formats to prevent an input in one video format from being inadvertently applied to an output device that supports another video format.

Segregating input and output devices that are in separate rooms.

Isolating video from being displayed on specific output devices for operational security reasons.
