Accessing the Router Administrator Using the Ethernet Port

You can access the Router Administrator software using the Ethernet port using Telnet. For Windows users, if you want to use Telnet, you must configure the preferences and font from the Terminal menu each time as shown below.

Click Font to set the font as shown here.

Windows users may want to obtain HyperTerminal Private Edition from Hilgraeve, which supports Telnet protocol and serial port protocol.

You can configure a variety of settings for the Ethernet connection. For more information, see Configuring the Additional LAN Settings on page B-3.

Using the Ethernet Port for the First Time

Before you can access the Router Administrator software, you must set the IP address and subnet mask for the controller. The default IP address is 204.132.192.216. You can do this one of four ways:

Setting up your computer with an IP address that is compatible with the controller default of 204.132.192.216, such as 204.132.192.218.

Using address resolution protocol (ARP) to set the address. See Using Address Resolution Protocol on page B-2.

Using Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) to set the address. See Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol Configuration on page B-3.

Once you set the IP address and subnet mask, you can use the steps in the next section to access the Router Administrator software.
