Changing the Modem Access Password

The default user name is admin and the password for the modem’s Web Configuration Manager is password. Netgear recommends that you change this user name and password to a more secure combination.

From the Main Menu of the browser interface, under the Maintenance heading, select Set Password to bring up the menu shown in Figure 5-7.

To change the password, first enter the old password, and then enter the new password twice. Click Apply.

Firmware Upgrade

The software of the DM602 modem is stored in FLASH memory, and can be upgraded as new software is released by NETGEAR. Upgrade files can be downloaded from Netgear's website. If the upgrade file is compressed (.ZIP file), you must first extract the binary (.BIN) file before sending it to the modem. The upgrade file can be sent to the modem using your browser.

Note: The Web browser used to upload new firmware into the DM602 modem must support HTTP uploads. NETGEAR recommends using Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or Netscape Navigator 4.0 or above.
