The shutter release button (1.7) works in two stages. Pressing it lightly (to the first pressure point) activates automatic focusing if set, exposure metering, and exposure control and also saves the respective settings/ values (see p. 126). If the camera was previously in stand-by mode (see p. 113), this activates the camera again and the monitor image reappears (see also p. 114).

Before completely depressing the shutter release button make sure that focus- ing/autofocus (if switched on) and exposure metering have been completed (for details on exposure settings, AF, and the corresponding indications in the monitor, please see pp. 126, 121, 90, respectively).

Pressing the shutter release button all the way down takes the picture.

Notes:

The menu system can be used to select and set key and shutter acknowl- edgement tones, and to adjust their volume (see p. 113).

The shutter release button should be pressed gently and not jerkily to pre- vent camera shake.
