Before consulting your JVC dealer, please check the following to see it you can correct the problem yourself.

The camcorder is a microcomputer-controlled device. External noise and interference (from a TV, a radio, etc.) might prevent it from functioning properly. In such cases, first disconnect its power supply unit (battery pack, AC Adapter, etc.) and wait a few minutes; and then re-connect it and proceed as usual from the beginning.

No power is supplied.

• The power is not connected properly.

¥Connect the AC Adapter securely ( pg. 7).

• The battery is dead.

¥Replace the dead battery with a fully charged one ( pg. 7, 8).

“SET DATE/TIME!” appears.

• The date/time is not set.

¥Set the date/time ( pg. 10).

The built-in clock’s rechargeable lithium battery is discharged.

The previously set date/time is erased.

¥Connect the camcorder to an AC outlet using the

AC Adapter for over 24 hours to charge the clock’s lithium battery ( pg. 38).

Recording cannot be performed.

• The tape’s erase protection tab is set to “SAVE”.

¥Set the tape’s erase protection tab to “REC” ( pg. 9).

• The Power Switch 8 is set to “ ” or “OFF”.

¥Set the Power Switch 8 to “ ” or “ ” ( pg. 12).

• “TAPE END” appears.

¥Replace with new cassette ( pg. 9).

The cassette holder cover is open. ¥ Close the cassette holder cover.

There is no picture.

The camcorder is not getting power, or some other malfunction exists.

¥Turn the camcorder’s power off and on again ( pg. 12).

The focus does not adjust automatically.

• Focus is set to the Manual mode.

¥Set Focus to the Auto mode ( pg. 19).

The recording was done in a dark place, or the contrast was low.

The lens is dirty or covered with condensation.

¥ Clean the lens and check the focus again ( pg. 39).

The cassette will not load properly.

The cassette is in the wrong position. ¥ Set it in the right position ( pg. 9).

The battery’s charge is low.

¥Install a fully charged battery ( pg. 7, 8).

Snapshot mode cannot be used.

• The Squeeze mode is selected.

¥Disengage the Squeeze mode ( pg. 22).

The colour of Snapshot looks strange.

The light source or the subject does not include white. Or there are various different light sources behind the subject.

¥Find a white subject and compose your shot so that it also appears in the frame ( pg. 18).

The Sepia or Monotone mode is activated. ¥ Turn off Sepia and Monotone ( pg. 16).

The image taken using Snapshot is too dark.

Shooting was performed under backlit conditions. ¥ Press the BACKLIGHT Button & ( pg. 19).

The image taken using Snapshot is too bright.

• The subject is too bright.

¥Set “PROGRAM AE” to “SPOTLIGHT” in the Menu Screen ( pg. 16).

Digital Zoom does not work.

• 16X optical zoom is selected.

¥Set “ZOOM” to “40X” or “700X” in the Menu Screen ( pg. 21).

The Black & White Fader does not work.

The Sepia or Monotone mode is activated. ¥ Turn off Sepia and Monotone ( pg. 16).
