Disconnecting/Connecting the Battery Cables

WARNING!

 

The use of rubber gloves is recommended when

 

working with batteries.

 

NEVER allow any of your tools and/or battery cables

 

to contact both battery terminals at the same time.

 

An electrical short may occur and serious personal

 

injury or damage may occur.

 

The positive (+) battery cable must connect to the

 

positive (+) battery terminal, otherwise serious

 

damage will occur to the electrical system.

 

Proper battery terminal configuration MUST be used.

 

Refer to Using the Proper Batteries, page 43. Batteries

 

that have the terminal configuration reversed MUST

 

NOT be used - otherwise serious injury or damage

 

may occur.

 

1. Remove the battery box from the personal transporter. Refer

 

to5.5 Removing/Installing the Battery Box From/Into the Personal

 

Transporter, page 28

 

2. Remove the 10 mounting screws A securing the battery box

 

cover B the battery box C.

 

3. Remove the two hex head mounting screws D and locknuts E

 

securing the circuit breaker wiring harness E to the negative

 

terminal G of the left side battery and the positive battery

 

terminal H of the right side battery.

 

4. Perform the following to disconnect the battery connector

 

wiring harness I from the two batteries:

 

a. Remove the hex head mounting screw and nut securing the

 

BLACK negative battery cable J from the negative terminal

 

of the left side battery.

 

b. Remove the hex head mounting screw and nut securing

 

the RED positive battery cable K from the positive battery

 

terminal of the right side battery.
