Stairways and Escalators

If moving the personal transporter between floors by means of a stairway, the occupant MUST be removed and transported independently of the personal transporter components.

The seat MUST be removed from the personal transporter base before moving it up or down the stairs. No upward force should be applied to the seat to move the chair.

The personal transporter base weighs 100 lbs with the battery box installed. Invacare recommends removing the battery box and transporting it independently from the base.

Invacare recommends using two assistants and making thorough preparations. Make sure to use ONLY secure, non-detachable parts for hand-hold supports.

DO NOT use an escalator to move a personal transporter between floors. Serious bodily injury may occur.

DO NOT attempt to lift the personal transporter by any removable (detachable) parts. Lifting by means of any removable (detachable) parts of a personal transporter may result in injury to the user or damage to the personal transporter.

Follow this procedure for moving the personal transporter between floors when an elevator is NOT available:

When using a stairway to move the personal transporter and any accessories, move all personal transporter components away from the stairway prior to reassembly.

General

1.Remove the occupant from the personal transporter.

2.Remove then seat. Refer to 5.6 Removing/Installing the Seat Assembly, page 29.

3.Remove the battery box from personal transporter. Refer to

5.5 Removing/Installing the Battery Box From/Into the Personal Transporter, page 28.

4.Bend your knees and keep your back straight.

5.Fold the foot plate up against the front of the personal transporter.

6.Using the foot plate hand hold and the base handle located at the rear of the personal transporter, lift the personal transporter off of the ground and transfer the personal transporter up or down the stairs.

7.The personal transporter should not be lowered until the last stair has been negotiated and the personal transporter has been carried away from the stairway.
