Blade Parallelism
Your table saw will give the best results if the miter slot and the rip fence are adjusted parallel to the blade. If either of these are not exactly par- allel, your cuts and your finished work will be lower in quality, but more important, this condition increases the risk of kickback. Take the time to adjust your table saw properly. A few minutes now will be time well spent.
1.Disconnect the machine from the power source!
2.Use an adjustable square to measure the distance from the miter slot to a carbide tip on the blade as shown in Figure 41. Make sure that the face of the adjustable square is even along the miter slot.
3.With the end of the adjustable square just touching the tip, lock the square in place. Now, mark the carbide tip with a magic mark- er where you made this measurement.
4.Rotate that tip to the other end of the table insert.
5.Slide the adjustable square down to the other end of the table insert, and compare the distance from the marked blade tip to the end of the adjustable square.

6.If the blade tip does not touch the end of the adjustable square similar to the first mea- surement, then the table will need to be adjusted.
7.To adjust the table, loosen the four bolts in the table mounting locations (see Figure 42) and slightly tap the table. Repeat Steps 1-5 until satisfactory. Do not forget to tighten the table mounting bolts when finished.

8.Now check to see if the blade remains paral- lel to the miter slot when tilted to 45¡.
9.Tilt the blade to 45¡ and repeat Steps 1-5. If the blade is still parallel to the miter slot, con- tinue on to the ÒMiter GaugeÓ instructions. Otherwise, continue with the next step.
10.If the blade was parallel to the miter slot at 90¡ but not at 45¡, the table will need to be shimmed with metal shim stock. The shims are placed between the table and cabinet over each of the four table mounting bolts.
Use caution and remain alert when working around the saw blade. Failure to follow this warning could result in serious personal injury or death.
