Drill Chuck

To mount the drill chuck on the drill press:

1.Thoroughly clean all of the oil from both ends of the arbor, inside the drill chuck and the drill press spindle.

2.The short taper on the end of the drill chuck arbor is called a ‘Jacobs Taper’. In this case, a ‘Jacobs Taper #3’. Slide the short taper into the drill chuck and tap lightly with a soft ham- mer or block of wood.

3.The long taper of the drill chuck arbor is called a ‘Morse Taper’. In this case, a ‘Morse Taper #3’. Slide the arbor and chuck into the drill press spindle and turn it until the tang slips into the slot in the spindle.

4.While holding onto the drill chuck, tap lightly on the bottom of the chuck with a soft ham- mer or a block of wood. The drill chuck should now be quite snug in the drill press. If not, repeat steps 1-3, making sure all oil is removed.
