Operation

Intrepid Multi-fuel’s Controls

Two controls are used to regulate the performance of the Intrepid Multi-Fuel. A primary air control regulates the oxygen supply for the fire, and a damper directs combustion gases through a heat exchanger passage in the rear. (Fig. 31)

Primary Air Control

The primary air control lever, located at the right rear corner of the stove, controls the amount of incoming air for starting, maintaining, and reviving a fire. More air entering the stove makes the fire burn hotter and faster, while less air prolongs the burn at a lower heat level. (Fig. 32)

For the greatest air supply and maximum heat output (but the shortest burn time), move the lever to the left. For a fire that will last longer with less heat, move the lever to the right. You can set the lever anywhere in be- tween the left and right extremes, shown in Figure 32. With some experimentation, you will soon discover the optimum setting that will provide the desired comfort/ performance level from the type of fuel you are using.

The Intrepid Multi-fuel also features an automatic thermostat that works in conjunction with the primary air control shutter to ensure an even heat output at any manual setting you select. The thermostat responds to the temperature of the cast iron, closing and opening the air inlet as the fire intensity rises and falls.
