Pin 2 is »hot« on all XLR’s (IEC and AES standards).

Unbalanced Input:

If you are connecting unbalanced equipment to the D22, pins 1 and 3 must be tied together in the cable ends away from the D22. (see fig. 1)

Unbalanced Output:

If the D22’s Outputs are connected to unbalanced equipment pin 3 should not be connected. (see fig 2). If you are using cable types, where pins 1 and 3 are connected (fig. 1), the maximum analog Output will be reduced by 6dB from 26dBu to 20dBu.
