Introduction
The 'DNS' page
IP addresses are fundamental to the operation of the Internet. IP addresses, being 32bit numbers, are ideally suited for computers but are far from usable to humans.
Therefore, the Domain Name System (DNS) was designed: a distributed database, held by a hierarchical system of servers, that is used by TCP/IP applications to map between hostnames and IP addresses.
This section describes AST350i's DNS abilities.
Click in the left pane of the AST350i pages to pop up the
'DNS' page:
Configuring the DNS server
Check the 'Server active' checkbox to enable the AST350i DNS server (per default enabled).
In the 'Domain name' field you can enter the domain name of your LAN (default domain name is 'lan'). You may use a DNS
subdomain name, e.g. dsl.office.lan. Click and to finish.
