4. Affected capacitors will have a “+” sign stamped into the top of the capacitor.
Note:
Not all capacitors stamped with a “+” sign are faulty, so further inspection is required to
determine whether one or more of the capacitors are faulty.
5. Failed capacitors will no longer have a flat top and can be identified by signs of bulging
(shown below) and/or venting. The top may bulge upward. In severe cases the top of
the capacitor may show signs of electrolyte venting which appears as a small amount
of cream-colored paste around the top of the capacitor. One or both of these
symptoms indicates that the capacitor has or will likely fail.
