Anode inspection and replacement
Step 1. Turnoff water supply and drain water heater.
Step 2. Disassemble water heater per “Disassembly Procedure for Access to Andoes & Flue Baffles”.
Step 3. Locate andremove anode rods from heater (1-1/16 hex socket).
Step 4. Visually inspect anode rod. Anode rod should show signs of depletion, this is normal. If
thedepletion is ½ of the original diameter (approximately ¾" diameter), replacement is
recommended. If any of the steel core of the anode is exposed, replacement is
recommended.
Step 5. Upon completionof inspection or subsequent replacement, apply thread sealing tape or other
thread compound to threads of anodeand reinstall into heater. Restore water supply
and check for and repair any leaks found.
Step 6. Reinstall collector cover per “Collector Cover InstallationProcedure”.
Step 7. Reinstall collector insulationand control panel, reconnect control panel wire harnesses.
Step 8. Restore 120 volts to water heater and verify proper heater operation following the
instructions on the lighting instruction label or the lighting instruction located in the
installation and operating instruction manual.
Step 9. Replace surroundcover on top of water heater.
