Folder

A container in which documents, program files, and other folders are stored on your disks. Formerly referred to as a directory.

Font

A complete set of characters of the same size and style. For example, 12-point Courier bold.

Form

A custom paper size, with width and height defined by the user.

Grayscale image

A bitmap image that stores data for each dot as a shade of gray, rather than as black or white.

Halftones

The process of converting a grayscale image to black dots and white (unprinted) dots that simulate the gray shades in the original image.

Image Refinement

A printer technology from Canon which automatically senses and refines the jagged edges and ragged curves of characters and graphics.

Interface

The connection between two devices through which they communicate with each other. The imageRUNNER 1670F/1630/1610 machine features USB and parallel interfaces, which makes it compatible with IBM and similar personal computers.

Interface cable

The cable, with bidirectional capability, used to create the interface between a printer and a computer.

Interface port

The port through which the printer communicates with the computer. The imageRUNNER 1670F/1630/1610 has a USB port and a Centronics, 8-bit, parallel interface port, located on the side of the machine. See Parallel interface and USB interface.

Italic

A font style distinguished by slanted characters (the upright strokes of the characters are at an angle to the vertical axis).
