New EF14 mm f/2.8L II
USM Lens
The EF14mm f/2.8L II USM is an ultra-wide-angle lens that was
developed asthe successor to the EF 14mm f/2.8L USM. Since the
EF 14mm f/2.8L USM was first released in 1991, it hasbeen widely
used asa high-performance ultra-wide-angle lens by both profes-
sionaland high-end amateur photographers. At the same time,
there has been increasinglystrong demand from the market for a
lenswith improved image quality, particularly in peripheralareas. To
meetthese demands, the EF 14mm f/2. 8L II USM features completely
redesigned optics that offer not only significant improvementsin
image quality, butfeaturessuch as dust- and moisture-proofing,
resulting in a high-performance lensthat exceeds even the stringent
requirementsof professional users.
Compared to the now-discontinued EF14mm f/2.8L USM, the dimensions of the new
lens are: maximum diameter, 88.5mm (+5mm), overalllength 111.6mm (+8.6mm), and
weight645g (+85g). The minimum focusing distance is 0.2m and the maximum magnifi-
cation is0.15x.
ExtendersEF 1.4x II and EF 2x II, and Extension Tubes EF 12 II and EF 25 II cannot be used
with the lens. Also, the lenshas no filter threads, so it cannot be used with the screw-in
250D, 500D, and 500 Close-up Lenses, aswell as with Gelatin Filter Holders III and IV.
The lenscomes with a new, secure, spring mechanism lens cap, Lens Cap 14.
Features:
•High-performance L-series lens capable of ultra-wide-angle shots with a diagonal
angle ofup to 114°
•Uses 2 high-precision GMo aspherical lens elements (G3 is 40mm diameter aspherical
lenselement) to provide excellent correction for curvature of field, distortion and other
aberrations, giving superb image qualityover the entire image, and particularly in
peripheralareas, that far exceeds previous models
