The feed rollers and separation pad inside the scanner are consumable parts and will wear with scanning. If either the feed roller or the separation pad or both are worn, documents may not feed correctly and paper jams may occur.
When the total number of pages of documents fed in the scanner exceeds the following quantity, a message appears when the scanner is connected to the computer. In such cases, you must replace the part indicated in the message. For details on the consumable parts, see p. 113.

This message only serves as a rough guide for when to replace the feed roller and separation pad.
They may wear out sooner if, for example, a lot of pages with rough surfaces are scanned.
Replacing the Feed Roller
1 Open the feed tray.
2 Open the feeder cover.
Furthermore, the counter in the scanner that records the number of pages fed also needs to be reset when you replace the rollers. (See p. 101)
