CompleteIndoor Piping
Thepiping to the indoor unit can be routedfrom the back, side and
top. If the unitis being piped from the top or the side seenote
below.
1. On heat 40QAQ024– 048, the cooling piston (indoor) is
shipped in the factory installed metering device with the in-
door unit. UseTable 6 to verify that you havethe correct
pistonsize for the systembeing installed.
2. Run the line setand the control wiring from the outdoorto
theindoor unit through the hole in the wall.Keep the piping
generalguidelines in mind.
3. Cut the liquid and suctionline to the correctlength using a
tube cutter.
4. Remove the flarenuts from the indoor piping connections.
Installthem onto the liquidand suction lines andmake flare
connections.
5. Apply a small amountof refrigerant oil to the flareconnec-
tionand tubing.
6. Align the tubing with therefrigerant connections on the in-
doorunit.
7. Tighten the flare nut and finish the installation using two
wrenches as shown in Fig. 22 .
NOTE:Whenpiping is being routed from the top or side, two
pipe adaptors are supplied with the unit. Flare the pipe
adaptors to the indoor unit connections and sweat theother
ends to the line set.

8. Insulateboth connections on the 38QRR and the liquid line
connectionon the 38HDR units.
ConnectCondensate Drain Line
Observe all local sanitary codes when installing condensatedrains.
Referto Fig. 23 fordrain pipe connection from indoorunit.
1. Use hard polyvinyl chloride(PVC) pipe materialwith nom-
inal ID of 3/4in. to connect at drain line. Use pipeinsula-
tion 1/4 in.thick, such as Armaflex insulation,on exposed
piping inside the conditioned space.
2. To insureregular flow of condensate water, the drain pipe
shouldbe pitched toward anopen drain or sump at a down-
ward slope of at least 1/4 in. per ft.
3. If the drain piping isrouted through the side of the unit, at-
tach a fieldfabricated piece of sheetmetal to support the
drainpipe as shown in Fig. 23.
4. Attach drainpipe with nylon wire tie passingthrough hole
asshown in Fig. 23.

NOTE: Donot fasten nylon wire tiestight enough to deformthe
insulation, as this affects performance.
5. Installan external trap at the end of the condensateline.
NOTE: Should the installationrequire one, a condensate pump
may be ordered as a fields--installedaccessory. It is easier to install
pumpbefore hanging the unit.
