Functional and Operational Characteristics
3.5 System Option Modes To provide greater flexibility and enable the 9900 to be tailored to unique customer
operating requirements, additional operational parameters, or system option modes, are
available for the 9900 subsystem. At installation, the 9900 modes are set to their default
values (OFF), so make sure to discuss these settings with your Hitachi Data Systems team.
The 9900 modes can only be changed by the Hitachi Data Systems representative.
Table 3.2 – Table 3.8 show the public 9900 system option modes. Note: This 9900 mode
information was current at the time of publication of this document but may change. Please
contact your Hitachi Data Systems representative for the latest information on the 9900
System Option Modes.
Table 3.2 Common System Option Modes
Mode Level Description and Usage
22 Mandatory Controlling option for correction/drive copy: Turn mode 22 ON (nondisruptiv e) after the completion of the
micro-program exchange to microcode 01-18-67-00/00 or higher. Do NOT activate this mode unless
running the minimum microcode level indicated.
Also improves destage schedule to support large-capacity HDD (146-GB and higher).
ON: Controlling option for correction/ drive copy is active.
OFF: Controlling option for correction/ drive copy is not active.
Table 3.3 System Option Modes for Mainframe Connectivity
Mode Level Description and Usage
1 Optional PDS search assist by learning algorithm.
ON: 9900 performs PDS search assist by learning algorithm.
OFF: 9900 performs PDS search assist by host indication.
Microcode level: 01-10-00-00/10 and higher.
3 Optional EPW function for ascending record number in a cylinder.
ON: EPW can work to ascending record number in a cylinder.
OFF: EPW cannot work to ascending record number in a cylinder.
Microcode level: 01-10-00-00/10 and higher.
5 Optional SIM reporting option regarding drive/media SIM for 3380-K.
ON: DKC sends drive/media SIM for 3380-K to host.
OFF: DKC does not send drive/media SIM for 3380-K to host.
Microcode level: 01-10-00-00/10 and higher.
6 Optional "Suppression of reporting SSB F/M=6X. For VSE/FASTCOPY Copy job"
ON: DKC does not report SSB F/M=6X to host.
OFF: DKC reports SSB F/M=6X to host.
Microcode level: From 01-10-00-00/10 to 01-13-01-00/00.
162 Optional Tuning option for mainframe performance.
Do not set MODE162=ON to the subsystem which has less than 01-18-48-00/00.
ON: Tuning for sequential write performance is inactive.
OFF: Tuning for sequential write performance is active.
