EXTENSION CORDS

Use only3-wire extension cords that have 3-prong
grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that accept
the tool's plug. When using a power toolat aconsider-
able distance from the powersource, usean exten-
sion cord heavy enoughto carrythe currentthat the
tool will draw. An undersized extension cord will
cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in a lossof
power and causing the motor to overheat. Use the
chart provided below to determine the minimumwire
size required inan extensioncord. Only round jack-
eted cords listed by Underwriter's Laboratories (UL)
shouldbe used.
Length of Extension Cord Wire Size (A.W.G.)
Up to 25 feet 18
26-100 feet 16
When working with thetool outdoors, use an exten-
sioncord that is designed for outside use. This is
indicated by the letters WA on the cord'sjacket.
Before using an extension cord, inspect itfor loose or
exposed wires and cut or worn insulation.
_i, CAUTION: Keep the cord away from the cutting
area and positionthe cord so that itwillnot be
caught on lumber, tools, or other objects during
cutting operations.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

Your Sears Craftsman Band Saw is powered by a
precision built electric motor. It should be connected
to a power supply that is 120 volts, 60 Hz, AC only
(normal household current). Do notoperate this tool
on direct current (DC). Asubstantial voltagedrop will
cause a lossof powerand the motor will overheat. If
the saw does not operate when plugged intoan outlet,
doublecheck the power supply.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

Inthe event of a malfunctionor breakdown, grounding
providesa path of least resistancefor electdc current
to reduce the riskof electricshock. This toolis
equipped with an electriccord having an equipment-
grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug
mustbe plugged into a matching outletthat is properly
installed and grounded inaccordance with all local
cedes and ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided. Ifit will not fit the
outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified
electrician. Improper connection of theequipment-
grounding conductor can result in a dsk ofelectdc
shock. The conductor withinsulation having anouter
surface that is greenwith orwithout yellow stripes is
the equipment-grounding conductor. If repair or
replacement of the electriccord orplug is necessary,
do not connect the equipment-grcunding conductor to
alive terminal.
Check with a qualified electrician or service personnel
if the grounding instructions arenot completely
understood, or ifin doubt as towhether thetool is
properly grounded.
Repair or replacea damaged or worn cord immedi-
ately.
This tool is intended for use ona cimuit that has an
outlet like the one shown inFigure 1.It alsohas a
grounding pin like the one shown.
