TROUBLESHOOTING

Problem		Cause		Remedy
Engine fails to start	1.	Spark plug wire disconnected.	1.	Connect wire to spark plug.
	2.	Ignition switch is OFF (O).	2.	Turn switch to ON (I).
	3.	Fuel tank empty or stale fuel.	3.	Fill tank with clean, fresh gasoline.
	4.	Primer bulb wasn’t pressed enough.	4. Press primer bulb fully and slowly 5-7
				times.
	5.	Engine flooded.	5.	Use starting procedure with choke lever
				in the Open (C) position.
	6.	Faulty spark plug.	6.	Clean, adjust gap, or replace.
Engine flooded	1.	Too much gasoline primed through	1.	With the choke lever in the Open (C)
		engine.		position.
			2.	Squeeze the throttle control to the wide
				open position.
			3.	Place right foot on the right side of
				cultivator wheel.
			4.	Pull the starter rope briskly 3 to 5 times
				or until engine starts.
			5.	With tines off the ground, depress the
				throttle lever against the upper handle
				to increase engine speed and rotate
				tines.
Engine runs erratic	1.	Spark plug wire loose.	1.	Connect and tighten spark plug wire.
	2.	Blocked fuel line or stale fuel.	2.	Clean fuel line; fill tank with clean, fresh
				gasoline
	3.	Vent in gas cap plugged.	3.	Clear vent.
	4.	Water or dirt in fuel system.	4.	Drain fuel tank. Refill with fresh fuel.
	5.	Dirty air filter.	5.	Clean or replace air filter.
	6.	Carburetor out of adjustment.	6.	See qualified service center.
Engine overheats	1.	Engine oil level low.	1.	Fill crankcase with proper oil.
	2.	Dirty air filter.	2.	Clean or replace air filter.
	3.	Carburetor not adjusted properly.	3.	See qualified service center.
Occasional skip (hesitates)	1.	Spark plug gap too close.	1.	Adjust gap to .025”.
at high speed
Idles poorly	1.	Spark plug fouled, faulty or gap too	1.	Reset gap to .025” or replace spark
		wide.		plug.
	2.	Carburetor improperly adjusted.	2.	See qualified service center.
	3.	Dirty air filter.	3.	Clean or replace air filter.
