preheating the coffee machine

To ensure your espresso coffee is dispensed at the right temperature it is essential that the coffee unit is pre heated.

1Turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( to make espresso using ground coffee ).

2Check that the hot steam/water knob is firmly closed (turn clockwise) and that there is water in the tank.

3Fit the desired filter into the filter holder (without coffee) and attach to the machine by positioning it under the

liquid coffee/boiler outlet and turning to the right . Ensure it is firmly located.

4Position a cup under the filter holder. If you use the same cup that the coffee will be served in it will be preheated. Alternatively the cups can be pre heated on the cup warming tray.

5When the OK light glows, turn the selector knob to the coffee position ( to make coffee using E.S.E. filter pods ).

6Allow water to flow out until the OK light goes out, then turn the selector knob to the boiler position ( Note – use pods that conform to the ESE standard. ).

7Remove the filter holder and proceed to make coffee using either ground coffee or coffee pods.

to make espresso using ground coffee

1Pre heat the appliance as described above.

2Check that there is water in the tank.

3Select the desired filter and fit into the filter holder. Make sure that the tab on the filter fits into the slot on the filter holder.

Use the smaller filter for making one cup of coffee (or when using coffee E.S.E. pods) and the larger filter for 2 cups.

4Add the coffee using the measuring spoon provided one level spoon per cup, level the surface then lightly press with the back of the measuring spoon. Wipe off any coffee around the rim.

When buying ground coffee make sure it is suitable for espresso machines.

Never press the coffee too firmly as the coffee will come out slowly and the crema will be of a dark color. However, if it is pressed too lightly, the coffee will come out too fast

and the crema will be a light color.

5 Lift the filter holder into the liquid coffee/boiler outlet. Turn it to the right to lock into position .

Put one or two cups underneath . If making one cup of coffee, center your cup in the middle.

Ensure the selector knob is on the boiler position ( to froth milk for cappuccino ), the boiler light will come on. Wait until the OK light glows then turn the selector knob to the coffee position ( Manual background ).

6When you’ve enough coffee – not too much otherwise it will be too weak, (optimum dosage is 1.5 oz per cup) return the selector knob to the boiler position ( Manual background ). If you’re not making any more coffee turn the selector knob to the off position ( Manual background ).

7Remove the filter holder by turning to the left.

There will be water on the filter when you remove it: this is normal.

8To remove the used coffee from the filter holder, flip the lever on the handle so that the end locates over the filter

. Hold the lever in position with your finger pressed on

the heat resistant guard then tip the unit upside down and tap out the grounds .

Important

Never remove the filter holder while the coffee ( Manual background ) or steam ( Manual backgroundManual backgroundManual backgroundManual backgroundManual background ) function is selected or while coffee

is brewing – steam could shoot out and burn you.

to make coffee using E.S.E. filter pods

Important

If the filter for one cup is used after ground coffee has been used, it is necessary to clear any ground coffee from around the liquid coffee/boiler outlet. This is necessary to avoid water leakages from the filter holder and to ensure optimum performance. Take care as the area may be hot.

1Pre heat the machine as described. This will ensure that the coffee is delivered at a hotter temperature. Fit the small filter into the filter holder before fitting it to the machine, making sure that the tab on the filter fits into the slot on the filter holder.

2Place the E.S.E. coffee pod into the filter making sure the

pod is facing the correct way .

3Press the pod towards the lower part of the filter, making sure that the paper flaps adhere to the inner part of the filter.

4The pod needs to be well centred and placed in the filter.

5Fit the filter holder into the liquid coffee/boiler outlet and

turn to the right until it locks into position .

6 Follow the points ‘to make espresso’.

Note – use pods that conform to the ESE standard.

Always follow the instructions on the package of the pods for the correct positioning of the pods in the filter.

to froth milk for cappuccino

Prepare the espresso as previously described

1Make sure there is water in the tank.

2Turn the selector knob to the steam position ( Manual backgroundManual backgroundManual backgroundManual backgroundManual background ). Wait until the OK light comes on indicating that the boiler has reached the correct temperature.

3Partly fill a jug with milk – the milk may increase up to three times in volume so select a suitably sized jug.

Cold skim milk produces the best results.

4Position the jug under the cappuccino and latte system

.

5Place the nozzle into the milk about 1 inch deep and turn the steam/hot water knob in an anti clockwise direction. The milk will begin to increase in volume and appear frothy. When the volume of the milk has doubled, fully immerse the nozzle and continue heating the milk. Once the desired temperature is reached, stop the steam by turning the steam/hot water knob clockwise.

Never allow the milk to boil as this will spoil the flavor of the coffee.

6Turn the selector knob back to the off position ( Manual background ).

7Pour the frothed milk into the cups containing the espresso coffee.

Important – Never operate the cappuccino and latte system for longer than 2 minutes at one time.

hint - to prepare more than one cappuccino, first make all the coffees then at the end prepare the frothed milk for all the cappuccinos.
