VARIABLE CONTROL

OPERATION

The variable control valve can be set to any heat setting and flame height desired, by simply turning the control knob until that setting is attained. Even the lowest setting provides realistic, dancing yellow flames. Selecting higher settings produces greater heat output. This results in in- creased heating comfort.

TO TURN OFF GAS WARNING: Do not operate heater between PILOT and HIGH positions.

Shutting Off Heater CAUTION: Do not try to adjust heating levels by using the manual shutoff valve.

BURNERS

Check pilot flame pattern and burner flame patterns often.

PILOT FLAME PATTERN

Figure 24 shows a correct pilot flame pat- tern. Figure 25 shows an incorrect pilot flame pattern. (Note: Appearance of pilot assembly may vary by model.) The incor- rect pilot flame is not touching the thermo- couple. This will cause the thermocouple to cool. When the thermocouple cools, the heater will shut down.

CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

ODS/PILOT AND BURNER WARNING: Turn off heater and let cool before cleaning.

LOGS CAUTION: You must keep control areas, burner, and circu- lating air passageways of heater clean. Inspect these areas of heater before each use. Have heater inspected yearly by a quali- fied service person. Heater may need more frequent cleaning due to excessive lint from carpeting, bedding material, etc.

ODS/PILOT AND BURNER

Use a vacuum cleaner or small, soft bristled brush to clean.

LOGS

If you remove logs for cleaning, refer to Installing Logs, page 13, to properly re- place logs.
