EMC Fibre Channel Disk-Array Processor Enclos ure (DPE) Hardware Reference g-5
Glossary
SP (storage
processor) A printed-circuit board with processor memory modules and
control logic that manages the storage-system I/O between the
server FC adapter and the disk modules.
SP memory
module A memory mo dule (DIMM ) that provi des the loca l storage fo r an
SP.
SPS (standby power
supply) A unit that provides temp orary backup power in case o f a power
outage. An SPS is required for storage-system write caching. If
power fails, the SPS allows the SP to write the data from its cache
to disk. You can replace an SPS under power, without
interrupting applications. For SPS installation and cabling
information refer to the Standby Power Supply (SPS) Installation
and Maintenance document (See “Related Documentation” on
page xiii.).
storage processor
(SP) See SP (storage processor).
storage-system
caching The procedure of storing disk-based data in RAM memory (in
this case, DIMM memory on an SP) temporarily to save time if
the data needs to be accessed or changed again soon.
