How to use audio description

Audio description is a spoken narration that describes all important information on a programme, such as body language, facial expressions, scenery, action, costumes or anything that helps to express the plot of the story, event or image.

Audio description is not always available but you can check, in the following way, when it will be available.

The availability of audio description is shown by a beep, which can be heard in three different pitches. These are high, medium and low. A high-pitched tone means that audio description is on and available. A medium-pitched tone means audio description is on but not available. A low-pitched tone means audio description is not available at all on that programme or channel.

You can also see if audio description (AD) is available if the symbol is shown on the information display. For more information on what the symbols mean, see page 18.
