Figure 12.2 Loosen Refractory Retaining Strip

The valve can be accessed through the valve access panel on the right side of the fireplace. Use a phillips screwdriver to remove the right refractory by removing the two screws securing the refractory retaining strip.

Remove the inside valve access panel by lifting it up and out.

Using a phillips screwdriver remove the exterior valve access panel.

Remove the refractory side panel and set aside.

Turn the gas ball valve off and disconnect the gas line after the ball valve by loosening the fl are nut using a 13/16 in. and a 15/16 in. wrench.
