E. Chimney Requirements
When planning your fireplace location, the chimney construc- tion and necessary clearances must be considered. The fire- place system and chimney components have been tested to provide flexibility in construction. The following figures are the minimum distances from the base of the fireplace.
Minimum overall straight height is 6 ft 4 in. if the fire- place is freestanding a minimum of 10 ft from a combus- tible structure. See Figure 3.2.
| ft | m |
• Minimum overall straight height | 14 | 4.27 |
• Minimum height with offset/return | 16 | 4.88 |
• Maximum height | 90 | 27.43 |
• Maximum chimney length between an offset | 20 | 6.1 |
and return |
|
|
• Maximum distance between chimney | 35 | 10.67 |
stabilizers |
|
|
• Double offset/return minimum height | 24 | 7.32 |
• Maximum unsupported chimney length | 6 | 1.83 |
between the offset and return |
|
|
• Maximum unsupported chimney height above | 35 | 10.67 |
the fireplace |
|
|
• Minimum overall straight height if fireplace is | 6.33 | 1.93 |
freestanding |

Note: A maximum of two pairs of offsets and returns may be used.
