The Storage Connectivity Kit (option) is required for Fibre Channel signal pass-through when using the

Storage Connectivity Kit

CGESM or a GbE2 Interconnect Switch Kit. Both Ethernet cable consolidation and Fibre Channel

Option

connectivity is possible using a single interconnect option. Order one Storage Connectivity Kit per server

(supports a pair of two

blade enclosure for Fibre Channel pass through of HP ProLiant BL20p and HP ProLiant BL30p server

CGESM or GbE2 switches) blades series.

The Storage Connectivity Kit includes two OctalFC Interconnect Modules that provide sixteen open transceiver cages for the pluggable small form factor transceivers that come with each HP ProLiant BL30p Dual-Port Fibre Channel Adapter (option) and each HP ProLiant BL20p Dual Port Fibre Channel Adapter. The Storage Connectivity Kit supports up to eight HP ProLiant BL20p server blade series, up to sixteen HP ProLiant BL30p server blades series or combinations thereof.

RJ-45 Patch Panel

(A pair of patch panels

provided per kit)

(Each server blade enclosure requires a pair of interconnects - patch panels or interconnect switches)

6U (10.5-inch), plugs into HP BladeSystem p-Class server blade enclosures.

Passes through Ethernet NIC signals, from all installed server blades, individually out as RJ-45 connections.

Supports Gigabit Ethernet network adapters.

16 RJ-45 connectors on the back of each RJ-45 Patch Panel (32 RJ-45 connections per server blade enclosure).

The benefits to the RJ-45 Patch Panel are that it:

-Allows the customer to connect signals to their own LAN infrastructure components.

-Provides very economical option enabling the lowest cost blade solution.

-Is completely passive and requires no software or management.

Patch Panel 2 (with Fibre

Channel pass through)

(A pair of patch panels provided per kit)

(Each server blade enclosure requires a pair of interconnects - patch panels or interconnect switches)

6U (10.5-inch), plugs into HP BladeSystem p-Class server blade enclosures

Passes through Ethernet NIC signals, from all installed server blades, individually out as RJ-45 connections.

Supports Gigabit Ethernet network adapters.

16 RJ-45 connectors on the back of each RJ-45 Patch Panel 2 (32 RJ-45 connections per server blade enclosure).

Passes through Fibre Channel signals, from all installed HP ProLiant BL20p and HP ProLiant BL30p server blades series, individually out through small form factor pluggable (SPF) transceiver cages.

Supports 2 Gb/s Fibre Channel signals and backward compatible with existing 1 Gb/s Fibre Channel equipment.

NOTE: Either Patch Panel 2 or a Switch Interconnect Kit is required for SAN connectivity with HP ProLiant BL20p server blade series and HP ProLiant BL30p server blades series.

8 Fibre Channel small form factor pluggable (SPF) transceiver cages on the front of each Patch Panel 2 (16 Fibre Channel SPF transceiver cages per server blade enclosure).

The benefits to the RJ-45 Patch Panel 2 are that it:

-Allows the customer to connect signals to their own LAN and SAN infrastructure components.

-Provides a very economical option enabling the lowest cost blade solution.

-Is completely passive and requires no software or management.

-Electrically isolates the Ethernet and Fibre Channel signals from each other.
