Replacing the battery

To replace the battery:

1Turn off the computer and all peripherals.

2Disconnect the power cord and modem cable.

3Remove the computer cover according to the directions in the booklet Removing the Computer Covers.

4If necessary, remove any full-length add-in cards to gain access to the socket. (See the next page for battery location.)

5Remove any components that are blocking access to the battery.

6Gently pry the battery free from its socket, taking care to note the positive (+) and negative (-) orientation of the battery.

7Install the new battery in the socket, observing the correct polarity.

8Replace any components that were removed.

9Replace any add-in cards that were removed and then replace the computer cover.

10Run the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) Setup program to reset the date and time. (For instructions, see “Starting the BIOS Setup Program” on page 66.)
