KEYSWITCHGASOLINEVEHICLES
Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure6).Ithasthree
positions:OFF ,ON,andSTART.
Tostartthevehicle,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRALpositionandturnthekeytotheSTART
position,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Activatethechoke(14)asnecessary.Iftheenginedoesnotstartafter
10-15seconds,releasethekeyandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,releasethekeyanditwillreturnto
theONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.TheenginewillcontinuetoidleuntilthekeyisturnedtotheOFF
position.SeefollowingWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
WARNING
Movingparts!Keepclearoftheenginecompartmentwhiletheengineisrunning.
CAUTION
DonotshifttheForward/Reversehandlewhiletheacceleratorpedalispressed.Shiftthehandleonly
whenthevehicleisatacompletestopandtheengineisatidle.Failuretoheedthiscautioncould
resultindamagetothetransmission.
NOTE:WhenthekeyisturnedtotheOFFposition,themainvehiclesystemsaredisabled.Thekeyswitchmaybe
usedasanemergencystop.
ThekeycanberemovedonlywhenthekeyswitchisintheOFFposition.
KEYSWITCH–DIESELVEHICLES
Thekeyswitch(7)ismountedontheinstrumentpaneltotherightofthesteeringcolumn(Figure7).Ithasfour
positions:PREHEA T,OFF,ON,andST ART.
UsethePREHEATfeatureifthetemperaturefallsbelow23°F(–5°C).DonotholdthekeyinthePREHEATposition
longerthan20seconds.Topreheattheglowplugsincoldweather,turnthekeytothePREHEATposition,andholdit
therefor10-15seconds.ThenturnthekeytotheSTARTposition,andholditthereuntiltheenginestarts.Iftheengine
doesnotstartafter10-15seconds,turnthekeytotheOFFpositionandrepeattheprocedure.Oncetheenginestarts,
releasethekeyanditwillreturntotheONposition.Theenginewillidleinneutral.Theenginewillcontinuetoidleuntil
thekeyisturnedtotheOFFposition.SeepreviousWARNING,CAUTION,andNOTE.
FORWARD/REVERSECONTROL
TheForward/Reversehandle(6)islocatedontherightsideoftheinstrumentpanel(Figure6andFigure7).The
handlehasthreedistinctpositions:FORWARD(A),NEUTRAL(B),andREVERSE(C).Pushthehandleuptooperate
thevehicleintheforwarddirection,orpullthehandledowntooperatethevehicleinreverse.Theenginecanbe
startedonlywhenthehandleisintheNEUTRAL(middle)position.Theenginemustbeatidlebeforeshiftingthe
Forward/Reversehandle.SeeWARNINGandCAUTIONonpage15.
Thisvehicleoperatesatareducedspeedinreverse.Ifequippedwithareversebuzzer,thereversebuzzerwillsound
asawarningwhentheForward/ReversehandleisintheREVERSEposition.
ACCELERATORPEDAL
Theacceleratorpedal(1)isthepedalfarthesttotheright(Figure6andFigure7).
WiththeenginerunningandtheForward/ReversehandleintheFORWARDorREVERSEposition,vehiclespeed
willincreaseastheacceleratorpedalispressed.Whentheacceleratorpedalisreleased,itwillreturntotheoriginal
positionandtheenginewillidle.SeeWARNINGandCAUTIONonpage15.
