vSystem Information

Select this choice to display information about your server. Changes that you make on other menus might appear on this summary screen. You cannot edit any fields. The System Information choice appears only on the full Configuration/Setup Utility main menu.

Product Data

Select this choice to view system information, such as the machine type and model, the server serial number, and the revision level or issue date of the BIOS and diagnostics code stored in the electrically erasable programmable ROM (EEPROM).

vDevices and I/O Ports

Select this choice to view or change the assignments for devices and input/output (I/O) ports. This choice appears only on the full Configuration/Setup Utility main menu.

You can use this choice also to enable or disable the integrated SCSI controller with RAID capabilities and Ethernet controllers, and standard ports (serial, parallel, and so on).

The default setting is Enabled for all the controllers you can control from this menu. If you select Disabled, the system will not configure the disabled device and the operating system will not detect the device. (This is equivalent to unplugging the device.)

If the integrated SCSI controller with RAID capabilities is disabled and no SCSI adapter is installed, the server will have no SCSI capability.

If the on-board Ethernet controller is disabled and no Ethernet adapter is installed, the server will have no Ethernet capability.

vDate and Time

Select this choice to set the system date and time. This choice appears only on the full Configuration/Setup Utility main menu.

The system time is in a 24-hour format (hour:minute:second).

vSystem Security

Select this choice to set passwords or the Remote Control Security settings. This choice appears only on the full Configuration/Setup Utility main menu.

You can implement two levels of password protection:

Power-on Password

Select this choice to set or change a power-on password. See “Using passwords” on page 20 for more information.

Administrator Password

Attention: If an administrator password is set and then forgotten, it cannot be overridden or removed. You must replace the system board.

Note: This choice is available on the Configuration/Setup Utility menu only if the optional IBM Remote Supervisor Adapter is installed in your server.

Select this choice to set or change an administrator password.

The administrator password provides access to all choices on the Configuration/Setup Utility main menu. You can set, change, or delete both the administrator and power-on passwords and allow a power-on password to be changed by the user.

See “Using passwords” on page 20 for more information.

xSeries 235 specifications

The IBM xSeries 235 is a distinguished server model designed to cater to the needs of small and medium-sized businesses, offering a blend of performance, scalability, and manageability. This versatile server is powered by Intel's Xeon processors, providing robust processing capabilities that can handle a variety of workloads efficiently.

One of the main features of the xSeries 235 is its dual-processor architecture, which allows for increased computational power. This configuration can support up to two Intel Xeon processors, making it well-suited for multitasking environments where performance is crucial. Additionally, it offers support for up to 8GB of RAM, enabling it to manage multiple applications simultaneously and ensure smooth operation under load.

In terms of storage, the xSeries 235 accommodates several hard drive configurations. It supports a mix of SCSI and SATA drives, allowing users to choose the storage solution that best meets their performance and capacity needs. The server’s RAID capabilities further enhance data protection and availability, offering Options such as RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, and 10 for flexible and reliable storage management.

The xSeries 235 is built on IBM's Enterprise X-Architecture, which brings advanced features such as Hot-Swap drive bays and redundant power supplies. These features ensure higher reliability and uptime, making it a dependable choice for critical business applications. The server also incorporates built-in management tools through the IBM Director software, providing administrators with the ability to monitor, manage, and streamline server operations effectively.

Furthermore, the xSeries 235's compact 1U form factor facilitates easy deployment in data center environments with limited space. This space-efficient design does not compromise on performance, as it can still deliver significant computational resources without the bulk of traditional servers.

The server also emphasizes energy efficiency, aligning with the increasing demand for environmentally friendly technology solutions. It is designed to minimize power consumption while maintaining high performance, contributing to lower operational costs for businesses.

Overall, the IBM xSeries 235 stands out as a reliable and cost-effective server solution, ideal for businesses looking to enhance their IT infrastructure without overshooting their budget. Its combination of processing power, storage flexibility, and enterprise-grade features encapsulates why it remains a preferred choice for many organizations.
