What your server offers

The design of your server takes advantage of advancements in symmetric multiprocessing (SMP), data storage, disk-array technologies, and memory management. Your server combines:

vIBM X-Architecture technology

IBM X-Architecture features leverage proven innovative IBM technologies to build

the most powerful, scalable, reliable Intel-processor-based servers in the world. X-Architecture features include Light Path Diagnostics, Chipkillmemory, Predictive Failure Analysis (PFA), and the Advanced System Management processor.

vImpressive performance using SMP

Your server supports up to two Intel Xeon microprocessors. Your server comes with at least one microprocessor installed; if it comes with one microprocessor, you can install an additional microprocessor to enhance performance and provide SMP capability.

vLarge data-storage and hot-swap capabilities

All models of the server support up to six 25.4 mm (1-inch) slim-high, 3.5-inch hot-swap hard disk drives in the hot-swap bays. This hot-swapfeature enables you to add, remove, or replace hard disk drives without turning off the server.

vActive PCI (hot-plug) adapter capabilities

Your server has two hot-plugslots for peripheral component interconnect (PCI) adapters. With operating system support, you can replace failing hot-plug PCI adapters without turning off the server. You can also add PCI adapters in these slots without turning off the server, if the operating system and the adapter support the hot-add feature.

vRedundant cooling and power capabilities

The redundant cooling and hot-swap capabilities of the fans in your server enable continued operation if one of the fans fails. You can also replace a failing fan without turning off the server.

Some models of the server come with two hot-swap 560-watt power supplies. The two hot-swap power supplies provide redundant power for many server configurations. If a problem occurs with one of the power supplies, the other power supply can handle the load. The NONREDUNDANT light-emitting diode (LED) on the diagnostic LED panel is lit when a problem is detected with one of the redundant hot-swap power supplies. For models that come with one fixed

560-watt power supply, a hot-swap power-supply option containing two hot-swap 560-watt power supplies is available; you can replace the fixed power supply with the hot-swap power-supply option to provide redundancy. (See the Option Installation Guide on the IBM xSeries Documentation CD for instructions.)

vLarge system memory

Your server supports up to 6 GB of system memory. The memory controller provides error correcting code (ECC) support for up to six industry-standard, 133 MHz/266 MHz, 2.5 V, 184-pin, double-data-rate (DDR), PC2100 registered, synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM) dual inline memory modules (DIMMs). The memory controller also provides Chipkill Memory protection if all DIMMs are of the type x4. Chipkill Memory protection is a technology that protects the server from a single chip failure on a DIMM.

vSystem-management capabilities

Your server comes with an integrated system management processor (ISMP) and support for the Remote Supervisor Adapter. The ISMP, in conjunction with the

xSeries 235 specifications

The IBM xSeries 235 is a distinguished server model designed to cater to the needs of small and medium-sized businesses, offering a blend of performance, scalability, and manageability. This versatile server is powered by Intel's Xeon processors, providing robust processing capabilities that can handle a variety of workloads efficiently.

One of the main features of the xSeries 235 is its dual-processor architecture, which allows for increased computational power. This configuration can support up to two Intel Xeon processors, making it well-suited for multitasking environments where performance is crucial. Additionally, it offers support for up to 8GB of RAM, enabling it to manage multiple applications simultaneously and ensure smooth operation under load.

In terms of storage, the xSeries 235 accommodates several hard drive configurations. It supports a mix of SCSI and SATA drives, allowing users to choose the storage solution that best meets their performance and capacity needs. The server’s RAID capabilities further enhance data protection and availability, offering Options such as RAID 0, 1, 1E, 5, and 10 for flexible and reliable storage management.

The xSeries 235 is built on IBM's Enterprise X-Architecture, which brings advanced features such as Hot-Swap drive bays and redundant power supplies. These features ensure higher reliability and uptime, making it a dependable choice for critical business applications. The server also incorporates built-in management tools through the IBM Director software, providing administrators with the ability to monitor, manage, and streamline server operations effectively.

Furthermore, the xSeries 235's compact 1U form factor facilitates easy deployment in data center environments with limited space. This space-efficient design does not compromise on performance, as it can still deliver significant computational resources without the bulk of traditional servers.

The server also emphasizes energy efficiency, aligning with the increasing demand for environmentally friendly technology solutions. It is designed to minimize power consumption while maintaining high performance, contributing to lower operational costs for businesses.

Overall, the IBM xSeries 235 stands out as a reliable and cost-effective server solution, ideal for businesses looking to enhance their IT infrastructure without overshooting their budget. Its combination of processing power, storage flexibility, and enterprise-grade features encapsulates why it remains a preferred choice for many organizations.
