Types of operations The Octel Unified Messenger voice servers open data streams between
voice servers and:
nExchange servers.
nClient systems.
The actual Exchange server associated wit h each data stream depends on
the operation and, in some cases, the associated mailbox:
nThe operation of telephone answering results in the establishment
of a data stream between the voice server and the voice server’s
peer e-mail server.
nThe following operations result in the establishment of a
connection between the voice server and the Exchange server
containing the mailbox of the relevant subscriber:
Playing back a voice message over the telephone.
Recording a voice message to be sent to another subscriber.
A caller listening to one of the subscriber's prerecorded
greeting messages.
It is possible, using the information above, to cal culat e the wor st-ca se and
normal throughput requirement for each voice server and Exc hange serv er
pairing.
