RF Pass-Through

RF Pass-Through is a feature that enables the ML910 to receive and transmit radio signals through external antennas for better coverage or range, as compared to using its internal antennas. RF Pass-Through operation depends on having the required RF Pass-Through option and certain wireless options installed in the ML910, as well as a vehicle docking station that supports RF connectivity to the ML910. The presence of the RF Pass-Through option is noted on a label affixed to the underside of the ML910.

The wireless options that support RF Pass-Through are: embedded Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) modules, such as one of the public carrier modules or the Motorola Private DataTAC PRM240 Modem, and/or a GPS receiver module. Figure 1 shows the RF Pass-Through connectors (labeled as 3 and 4) which refer to the GPS Antenna Connector and WWAN Module Antenna Connector, respectively. Note that these connectors are present on all ML910 notebooks regardless of the associated options being installed.

RF Pass-Through is a standard feature on the High Tier ML910 Vehicle Docking Station, and is available on compatible ML900 Vehicle Docking Stations by installing the RF Pass-Through retrofit kit. The ML910 RF Pass-Through feature is not backward compatible with the ML900 High Tier Vehicle Docking Station's standard RF Pass-Through facility that is intended for ML900 notebooks only.
