Motion Detection

You can select the motion detection setting—which reduces the effects of subject movement and camera shake—used when shooting still images.

Option

Description

 

When the camera detects subject movement or camera shake, the ISO

 

sensitivity and shutter speed are automatically increased to reduce blurring.

 

However, motion detection does not function in the following situations:

 

• When the flash fires

U Auto

• In the following scene modes: Sports (A 38), Night portrait (A 39),

Dusk/dawn (A 39), Night landscape (A 40), Museum (A 41),

(default setting)

Fireworks show (A 41), Backlighting (A 42), Easy panorama

 

(A 42), Pet portrait (A 43), and 3D photography (A 44)

 

• When Continuous (E44) is set to Continuous or Multi-shot 16 in

 

A (auto) mode

 

• When the ISO sensitivity option (E46) is fixed at a particular value in

 

A (auto) mode

 

 

kOff

Motion detection is disabled.

 

 

The icon for the current setting is displayed in the monitor when the camera is in shooting mode (A 8).

When the camera detects camera shake or subject movement, it increases shutter speed and the motion detection icon turns green. No icon is displayed when Off is selected.

B Notes About Motion Detection

•Motion detection may be unable to completely eliminate the effects of subject movement and camera shake in some situations.

•Motion detection may not function if the subject exhibits significant movement or is too dark.

•The images captured using motion detection may be somewhat “grainy” in appearance.
