Con el SB-30 están disponibles dos modos de flash automático: Flash automático TTL y flash automático no TTL

Modo de flash automático no TTL

Este modo es posible con cámaras SLR compatibles con el flash automático

TTL. En el momento en que se dispara el obturador y el SB-30 empieza el destello, el sensor de flash automático TTL de la cámara mide a través del objetivo la iluminación del flash que se refleja en el sujeto y ajusta la intensidad del SB-30 para proporcionar la exposición correcta.

Los modos de flash TTL disponibles, como flash de relleno equilibrado con multisensor, flash de relleno equilibrado matricial, flash de relleno central/puntual, o flash TTL estándar varían en función de la cámara y del objetivo que se utilice. Si desea más información, consulte el manual de instrucciones de su cámara.

El flash de relleno equilibrado con multisensor 3D no es posible porque el SB-30 no emite una serie de destellos previos al disparo (predestellos de control).

Con el SB-30 no es posible el modo de flash automático D-TTL.
