Precautions before
connecting the system
WARNING
Pioneerdoes not recommend that you install
yournavigation system yourself. We recom-
mendthat only authorized Pioneer service
personnel, who have special training and ex-
periencein mobile electronics, set up and in-
stallthis product. NEVER SERVICE THIS
PRODUCTYOURSELF. Installing or servi-
cingthis product and its connecting cables
mayexpose you to the risk of electric shock
orother hazards, and can causedamage to
thenavigation system that is not covered by
warranty.
CAUTION
!Ifyou decide to perform the installation
yourself, and have special training and ex-
periencein the mobile electronics instal-
lations, please carefully follow all of the
stepsin the installation manual.
!Secureall wiring with cable clamps or
electricaltape. Do not allow any bare wir-
ingto remain exposed.
!Donot directly connect the yellow lead of
thisproduct to the vehicle battery. If the
leadis directly connected to the battery,
enginevibration may eventually cause
theinsulation to fail at the point where
thewire passes from the passenger com-
partmentinto the engine compartment. If
theyellow leads insulation tears as a re-
sultof contact with metal parts, short-cir-
cuitingcan occur, resulting in
considerabledanger.
!Itis extremely dangerous to allow the
cablesto become wound around the steer-
ingcolumn or shift lever. Be sure to install
thisproduct, its cables, and wiring away
insuch a way that they will not obstruct
orhinder driving.
!Makesure that the cables and wires are
routedand secured so they will not inter-
ferewith or become caught in any of the
vehiclesmoving parts, especially the
steeringwheel, shift lever, parking brake,
slidingseat tracks, doors, or any of the ve-
hiclescontrols.
!Donot route wires where they will be ex-
posedto high temperatures. If the insula-
tionheats up, wires may become
damaged, resulting in a short circuit or
malfunctionand permanent damage to
theproduct.
!Donot cut the GPS antenna cable to
shortenit or use an extension to make it
longer.Altering the antenna cable could
resultin a short circuit or malfunction.
!Donot shorten any leads. If you do, the
protectioncircuit (fuse holder, fuse resis-
toror filter, etc.) may fail to work properly.
!Neverfeed power to other electronic pro-
ductsby cutting the insulation of the
powersupply lead of the navigation sys-
temand tapping into the lead. The current
capacityof the lead will be exceeded,
causingoverheating.
!Theblack lead is ground. Please ground
thislead separately from the ground of
high-currentproducts such as power
amps.Do not ground more than one pro-
ducttogether with the ground from an-
otherproduct. For example, you must
separatelyground any amp unit away
fromthe ground of this navigation sys-
tem.Connecting grounds together can
causea fire and/or damage the products if
theirgrounds became detached.
