Hint: 64 Kbps means 64,000 bits were used to create one second of music. 128 Kbps means 128,000 bits were used to create one second of music.

Setting recording quality

The Rio Advanced Digital Audio Center is configured to record your CD music and convert it into high quality digital audio files that are less compressed for the Rio Advanced Digital Audio Center to play, or smaller, more highly compressed files to transfer to your portable Rio digital audio players.

Since the portable players often have limited space available for storing music, recording the digital audio files at a higher compression rate like 64 Kbps creates smaller file sizes, and allows you to put more music on your portable Rio digital audio player. When digital audio files are recorded at “CD quality” (approximately 128 kbps) or better, they are less compressed, use more bits to create one second of music, and take up more hard drive space.
