Rychlost závěrky znamená dobu, která je potřebná k otevření a uzavření
závěrky. Určuje množství světla, které projde clonou před tím, než dorazí
na snímač obrazu.
Rychlost závěrky je obvykle možné nastavovat ručně. Rychlost závěrky se
udává v„expoziční hodnotě“ (EV), která se označuje intervaly 1 s, 1/2 s,
1/4 s, 1/8 s, 1/15 s, 1/1 000 s, 1/2 000 s atd.

Rychlost závěrky

Čím kratší je tedy expoziční doba, tím méně světla je vpuštěno dovnitř.

A opačně – čím delší je expoziční doba, tím více světla je vpuštěno dovnitř.

Na fotografiích uvedených níže vidíte, že dlouhá expoziční doba propustí do fotoaparátu více světla. To pohybujícím se objektům přidává efekt pohybového rozmazání. Naopak kratší expoziční doba poskytuje

pro dopad světla méně času, ale taková fotografie pak snáze zachytí pohybující se objekt bez rozmazání.
