andfromthecomputersorotherenddevicse.
WiththeRavenXEinEthernetPublicmode,onlyonedevice
connectedtotheEthernetportwillreceivethepublicIP
addresswhichistheoneprovidedbythecellularnetwork.In
EthernetPrivatemode,withahuborswitchconnectedtothe
Ethernetport,theRavenXEwillprovideNATforarangeof
computersorotherdevicesconnectedtotheswitchorhuband
Internetaccesstoallofthem.
Dynamic vs. Static IP Addresses
Therearetwotypesofaddressesonnetworks:dynamicand
static.
Dynamicaddressesareassignedona“needtohave”basis.
Your PinPointXmightnotalwaysreceivethesame
addresseachtimeitconnectswithyourcellularprovider.
Staticaddressesarepermanentlyassignedtoaparticular
accountandwillalwaysbeusedwheneveryourPinPoint
XconnectstotheInternet.TheIPaddresswillnotbegiven
toanyoneelse.
MostISPs(cellularincluded)usedynamicIPaddressesrather
thanstaticIPaddressessinceitallowsthemtoreuseasmaller
numberofIPaddressesforalargenumberofcustomers.A
dynamicIPaddressissuitableformanycommonInternet
uses,suchaswebbrowsing,lookingupdataonanother
computersystem,orotherclientfunctions(suchasdataonly
beingsentoutoronlybeingreceivedafteraninitialrequest).
