RELEASING AND INSERTING
BATTERY PACK
Release battery pack from tool by pres sing
the battery release button and slidin g pack
out of handle base (Fig. 1). To insert battery,
align battery and slide battery pack into tool
until it locks into position. Do not force.
1. The battery pack accepts only about 80% of
its maximum capacity with its first few charge
cycles. H owever, after th e first few charge
cycles, the battery will charge to full capacity.
2. The charger was designed to fast charge
the battery only when the battery temperature
is between 32˚F (0˚C) and 113˚F (45˚C).
3. A substantial drop in opera ting time per
charge m ay mea n that the battery pack is
nearin g th e en d of its lif e an d sh ould be
replaced.
4. If you anticipate long periods (i.e. a month
or more) of non-use of your tool, it is best to
run your tool down until it is fully discharged
before storing your battery pack. After a long
period of storage, the capacity at first recharge
will be lower. Normal capacity will be restored
in tw o o r th ree charg e/dis charg e cy cles.
Remember to unplug charger during storage
period.
5. If battery does not charge properly:
a. Check for voltage at outlet by plugging
in some other electrical device.
b. Check to see if outlet is connected to a
light switch which turns power “off” when lights
are turned off.
c. Check battery pack termi nals for dirt.
Clean with cotton swab if necessary.
d. If you still do not get proper charging,
take or send tool, battery pack and charger to
your local Skil Service Center.
Note: Use of charger’s or battery packs not
sold by Skil will void the warranty.
IMPORTANT CHARGING NOTES (NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES)
Your batt ery pack is equipped with c harge
condition indicator lights (Fig. 3). The indicator
lights sh ows the charg e co ndit ion of t he
battery during operation.
To check battery charge condition, depress
and hold the button on the backside of the
battery pack.
• • • • • When all five lights are illuminated,
this indicates the batter pack is fully charged.
• • • When only three lights illuminate, this
indicates the battery pack is partially charged.
When only one light illu minates , th is
indicates the battery pack is slightly charged.
When no lights illuminate, this indicates the
battery pack is completely discharged.

CHARGING BATTERY PACK (SC118 OR SC118B CHARGER)
Plug charger cord into your standard power
outlet, then slide the battery pack into charger
(Fig. 3).
The charger’s green indicator will begin to
“BLINK”. This indica tes th at the batt ery is
receiving a fast charge. Fast-charging will
automatically stop when the battery pack is
fully charged.
When the indicator light stops “BLINKING”
(and becomes a steady green light) fast
charging is complete.
