Selecting the cassette type

– CCD-TRV67/TRV87 only

YoucanusebothHi8andstandard8mmvideocassettesonyourcamcorder.Whenyou useaHi8videocassette,recordingandplaybackarecarriedoutintheHi8system. Whenyouuseastandard8mmvideocassette,recordingandplaybackarecarriedout inthestandard8mmsystem.

However,ifyourecordonaHi8videocassetteintheLPmode,recordingiscarriedout inthestandard8mmsystem.

Ifyouplaybackataperecordedonadifferentvideorecorderonyourcamcorder,the playbackmodeisautomaticallyselectedaccordingtotheformatinwhichthetapehas beenrecorded.

ThisHi8systemisanextensionofthestandard8mmsystem,andwasdevelopedto producehigherqualitypictures.

YoucannotplaybackataperecordedintheHi8systemcorrectlyonvideorecorder/ playersotherthanaHi8videorecorder/player.

What is Video 8 /video Hi8 ?

– CCD-TRV17/TRV37/TRV57/TRV87 only

“Video8XR”/“videoHi8XR”isafunctionthatfurtherenhancestheimagequalityof Video8/videoHi8.Thisfunctionallowsyoutorecordandplaybackpictureswith clearerdetails.

Videotapesrecordedonacamcorderhavingthe“XR”functionshowexcellentpicture qualitywhentheyareplayedbackonan“XR”camcorder.

Theplaybackqualitywillbethenormalqualityofthestandard8mm/Hi8camcorder whenvideotapesrecordedonan“XR”camcorderareplayedbackbyaconventional standard8mm/Hi8camcorderorwhenvideotapesrecordedonaconventional standard8mm/Hi8camcorderareplayedbackonthe“XR”camcorder.

When you play back

The playback mode (SP/LP) and system, Hi8 or standard 8 mm (CCD-TRV67/TRV87 only)areautomaticallyselectedaccordingtotheformatinwhichthetapehasbeen recorded.ThequalityoftherecordedpictureintheLPmode,however,willnotbeas goodastheSPmode.

Note on AFM HiFi stereo

Whenyouplaybackatape,thesoundwillbemonauralif:

•You record the tape on your camcorder, then play it back on an AFM HiFi monaural videorecorder/player.

•You record thetape on an AFMHiFi monaural videorecorder,thenplay it back on yourcamcorder.

Foreign 8 mm video

BecauseTVcolorsystemsdifferfromcountrytocountry,youmaynotbeabletoplay backforeignpre-recordedtapes.Referto“Usingyourcamcorderabroad”tocheckthe TVcolorsystemsusedinforeigncountries.
