Experience the beauty of HD (high definition) images

BYour camcorder offers both AVCHD and DVD recording formats.

The recording format depends on the image quality, HD (high definition) or SD (standard definition). Select the image quality when you use a new disc on your camcorder (p. 33).

bNotes

You cannot change the image quality of a disc midway.

The images recorded with SD (standard definition) image quality cannot be converted to HD (high definition) image quality.

Your camcorder is compatible with the “1440 × 1080/50i” standard of AVCHD format (p. 127). “AVCHD 1080i format” is abbreviated as “AVCHD” in this manual, except when it must be described in more detail.

BHD (high definition) image quality

AVCHD format

Image resolution:

about 3.75 times of that of SD (standard definition)

Records high definition images. Recommended whether or not you have a high definition TV.

The disc can be played only on the devices compatible with the AVCHD format (p. 70).

bNotes

AVCHD images cannot be played on most currently available DVD devices, which are incompatible with the AVCHD format.

zTips

AVCHD images can be viewed even on non- high definition TVs. The image quality, however, is equivalent to SD (standard definition) image quality (p. 48).

BSD (standard definition) image quality

DVD format

Records standard definition images. Recommended if playback compatibility is important.

The disc can be played on DVD devices.

bNotes

DVD-RW (VR mode) discs can be played on the compatible devices only.
