1-2 Chipset Overview

The X8SIA/X8SIA-F supports the Intel® Xeon® processor 3400 series. Built upon the functionality and the capability of the single-chip Intel 3420 chipset, the X8SIA/X8SIA-F motherboard provides the performance and feature set required for single-processor-based systems with configuration options optimized for cost- effective server platforms.

The Intel 3420 chipset features a high-speed Direct Media Interface (DMI) for chip-to-chip true isochronous communication with the processor. This feature al- lows the X8SIA/X8SIA-F to achieve up to 10 Gb/s of software-transparent data transfer in each direction, achieving better performance than comparable systems. The X8SIA/X8SIA-F also features a high-efficient VRM design (90%), ECC Error Reporting, Intruder Detect and TCO timer to enable the system to recover from a software/hardware lock.
