4 – Playback operations—Using the jog function
TASCAM CD-RW402 Owner’s Manual 23
Searching inside tracks
Using the main unit While in play or play ready
mode, pressing and holding the search keys on the
main unit will move the playback position forwards
or backwards by a small amount.
Pressing and releasing the keys will move the play-
back position backwards and forwards by one minute
at a time.
Using the remote control unit The track skip
keys on the remote control unit can be used for small
movements of the playback position (similar to
pressing and holding the search keys) if they are
pressed and held for more than one second.
Using the jog function
The jog function allows you to set the playback posi-
tion precisely, to frame accuracy (75 frames=1 sec-
ond). This can be useful when copying or playing
back only a selected part of the disc, or editing the
TOC so that precisely selected portions can be
deleted or extracted.
Jogging takes place in play or pause mode, and
works in the following way:
1Position the playback point at approximately
the position at which the jogged playback
position will be.
2Press the appropriate JOG key. The JOG
indicator lights and the display shows the
current playback position including the
frame value (for example, 0:45:13).
3Turn th e MULTI DIAL (or use the skip keys on
the remote control unit). The displayed play-
back position moves backwards or forwards
(depending on the direction in whic h the dial
is turned or on the skip key pressed). T he
“preview portion” of the track, immediate ly
before the new playback position, is
repeated.
Turning the dial faster increases the rate at
which the position is moved (turning it
slower moves it by only one frame per click).
4Continue to turn the dial or use the skip keys
until end of the jogged preview portion
reaches the desired playback point.
5Press the JOG key so that the indicator goes
out. The drive enters pause mode at the point
at the end of the preview portion.
Once the playback position has been set in this way
in ready mode, it can be used as the A or B point or as
the call point (see “Cue point” on page22).
NOTE
If shuffle or programmed playback is selected and jog-
ging takes place as described above, the play mode
reverts to the normal “continue” mode.
Changing the preview portion length
1Press either MENU key. Turn the MULTI DIAL
until the display shows PLAY MENU ?.
2Push the MULTI DIAL.
3Turn the MULTI DIAL until the display shows
JOG LENGTH?.
4Push the MULTI DIAL.
5Turn the MULTI DIAL to set the length of the
preview portion in frames, from 12 frames
through 99 frames.
6Push the MULTI DIAL.
