Getting Started

Using the TouchPad™

5.375 x 8.375 ver 2.3

Control buttons

When a step instructs you to click or choose an item, move

the cursor to the item, then press and release the primary

(left-hand) button. To double-click, press the primary button

twice in rapid succession. The primary button usually

corresponds to the left mouse button.

The function of the secondary (right-hand) button depends on

the program you are using. It usually corresponds to the right

mouse button. Check your program’s documentation to

determine it uses the right mouse button.

Disabling or enabling the TouchPad

The TouchPad is enabled by default. To change the enable/

disable TouchPad setting:

1Click Start, Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware,

and then Mouse.

2Click the TouchPad ON/OFF tab.

The TouchPad ON/OFF tab view window appears.

Your program performs an illegal operation. Problems when you turn on the computer The computer will not start. The computer starts but when you press a key nothing happens. The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the optional external diskette drive. The computer displays the WARNING RESUME FAILURE message. The built-in screen flickers. Disk drive problems Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Page DVD-ROM or multi-function drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly but others do not. The disc will not come out of the drive when you click the eject button on the screen. Sound system problems You do not hear any sound from the computer. The computer emits a loud, high-pitched noise. PC Card problems Card Information Structure PC Card checklist Resolving PC Card problems The slot appears to be dead. PC Cards that used to work no longer work. The computer stops working (hangs) when you insert a PC Card. Hot swapping (removing one PC Card and inserting another without turning the computer off) fails. The system does not recognize your PC Card. A PC Card error occurs. Printer problems The printer will not print. The printer will not print what you see on the screen. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Wireless networking problems Page Special considerations for Windows XP Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption is not enabled on the wireless access point. The Windows XP wireless management facility does not work. DVD operating problems A blank screen appears while watching a DVD-ROM movie or title. Jumping video lines appear around the DVD-ROM video window. DVD titles, games, or applications appear distorted. The screen saver runs while you are watching a movie or title. Develop good computing habits Save your work frequently. On a regular basis, back up the information stored on your hard disk. Read the users guides.
