Using external display devices

Your computer comes with a built-in LCD display, but you can also connect the following types of external display devices to the video ports described below:

❖An HDMI-compatible television or VCR/DVD player via the HDMI Out port

NOTE	The HDMI port is available on certain models.

❖A standard television, projector, or VCR/DVD player via the S- video Out port

❖An external monitor or projector via the RGB (monitor) Out port

You cannot connect both the S-video Out port and the HDMI Out port to the same device at the same time.

The system display default is set at the factory to S-video Out.

Connecting the display device

If you are connecting a television or other video display device to the computer’s HDMI Out port, first refer to “Selecting video cables” on page 61 for guidelines on choosing a video cable, then refer to “Connecting an HDMI-compatible television or VCR/DVD player” on page 61.

If you are connecting a standard television or other video display device to the computer’s S-Video Out port, first refer to “Selecting video cables” on page 61 for guidelines on choosing a video cable, then refer to “Connecting a standard television, projector, or VCR/DVD player” on page 62.

❖Get the most recent drivers from the manufacturer ❖Disable the device For an older device, remove it from the computer Memory problems Power and the batteries The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does Keyboard problems Nothing happens when you press the keys on the external keyboard Restart Display problems Here are some typical display problems and their solutions: The screen is blank If you are using an external monitor: ❖Check that the monitor is turned on 2Click Personalize, and then Display Settings Small bright dots appear on your TFT display when you turn on your computer Disk drive problems Error-checking Tools Check now Your hard disk seems very slow Optical drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out Make sure a program is not accessing the drive and preventing it from ejecting Some discs run correctly but others do not Sound system problems No sound is coming from the computer’s speakers Adjust the volume control Try pressing Fn + Esc to see if volume mute is disabled Check that the volume control on the computer is turned up ExpressCard™
