Network Dataline Surge Suppressors

Español: p. 5 • Français: p. 9

Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressors are designed to protect data and communications equipment against AC transients caused by lightning, electrostatic discharge and ground surges that can enter equipment from the signal lines or chassis ground.

Select from the Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressors described in this manual to protect virtually any networked equipment connected to 100-Base-T, 10Base-T, 10Base-2 and 10-Base-5 Ethernet, Token Ring, RS232, RS422/423/485, parallel, dial-up modems, fax, ISDN, DDS, T-1, USB or most any other communication interface.

Installation

1.Make sure the computer, network device or other equipment is logged OFF the network (if applicable). Turn OFF power to the equipment.

2.Disconnect the cable from the equipment to be protected.

3.Connect the Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressor directly to the equipment. DB9 and DB25 models are reversible, to work with male or female ports. To change gender, remove the thumbscrews, reverse their direction and reinstall.

4.Attach the green ground wire on the surge suppressor directly to the protected equipment’s chassis. (Except DB9, DB15, DB25 and DUSB models.)

5.Reconnect the cable to the Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressor.

NOTE!: The Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressor must be properly grounded and positioned as close as possible to the equipment to be protected. For best results, it is required that the length of the signal line and ground wire (if equipped) between the surge suppressor and the protected equipment be kept as short as possible, not to exceed 12 inches (12"). It is best to install the surge suppressor directly to the equipment, as noted above.

NOTE!: Installing a typical Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressor is equivalent to addingapproximately three feet (3') of typical data communication cable to a segment.

CAUTION!

Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressors do not protect the equipment on the opposite end of the cable. Normally, protection at both ends is recommended.

CAUTION!

Tripp Lite Network Dataline surge suppressors will only protect against surges on the dataline portion of your installation. Simultaneous AC surge suppression/power protection in the form of an ISOBAR® surge suppressor or Tripp Lite UPS system is strongly recommended for complete system/network protection and can also extend Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage to connected equipment.
