Buffer Underrun definedCD-R/RW drives are equipped with a buffer memory. This memory temporarily stores data while a disc is being recorded. When the buffer memory becomes empty (due to unexpected interruptions or the system’s inability to keep up with the writing process), a writing error occurs. This error is known as a “buffer underrun error.”

A Buffer Underrun Error will permanently ruin the disc.
Yamaha Buffer Underrun ProtectionBuffer Underrun Protection is featured in the CRW-70 drive CD-R/RW drives. When a buffer underrun is about to occur, a buffer underrun error is prevented by temporarily suspending the writing process. Writing resumes when enough data has accumulated again in the buffer memory. Buffer Underrun Protection on the CRW-70 drive is extremely accurate, resulting in seamless recording between stop and continuation points.
